Bike is the perfect way to explore Kos island, renowned as the Bicycle Island. The flat terrain of Kos island makes the bike an easy method of transportation. Moreover there are many bicycle paths throughout the city and the seacoast.
Hiking from Zia village to the top of the Mount Dikaios (843 m) takes about 90 minutes. On the top, you will have a panoramic view of the Aegean sea and nearby islands and you will find the church of Christos, a large cross and a shelter (in a very good condition) where you can stay for the night.
Kos island is a perfect area for bird watching and listening to bird singing. There are 3 Natura 2000 protected areas in Kos: the salt lake Alikes in Tigaki, the Lake Psalidi and the Mount Dikaios. If you want to see migratory birds (especially flamingos), you have to visit Kos in the beginning of spring (March & April).
Kos island wine product consists of indigenous grape varieties such as Assyrtiko, Athiri, Malagouzia and indigenous varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon etc. There are visitable wineries (Triantafyllopoulos Vineyards, Hatziemmanouil winery), where you can taste authentic wine taste and learn more about the local wines.
Kos is a volcanic island and its coastline characterized from many underwater caves and reefs ideal for scuba diving. There are many diving centers in all popular tourist resorts of Kos and offer courses for either beginners or advanced, kids or adults.
